Quality and innovation
New opportunities are now opening for companies in the wood integrated chain and for innovative projects. In fact, this integrated chain has remained in the background for long on the national level and is now at the cross-roads. The uses to which wood and wooden products are being put are undergoing radical changes.
That is why, in the logic of the forest-wood-furnishing contract signed in January 2004, the development priorities are:
- to adapt the resources to the needs of the industry: to valorise the quality of maritime pine by innovating in products and markets,
- to reinforce the adequacy of the products being offered with respect to the demands of the market,
- to increase the performances of the integrated chain by innovating.

The industrial production on the territory can stimulate positive external developments (mandrel plugs, paper industry sludge, etc.) and form a regular competitive centre with the forestry research and the new information and communication technologies.

Logistic procurement platform
The Mimizan Community of Communes has contributed, with the financial support of the government, the Aquitaine region and the Landes department, to setting up a logistic platform for storage of wood under sprinkling to cope with the huge inflow of dead wood after the December 1999 storm. Now that the stocks have been cleared, the CCM is making forecasts and conducting a pilot study with a view to continuing the activities of this site.
Concept: the existing infrastructures could be used to store high quality logs of resinous or deciduous species for marketing. Industries will be offered a regular supply of high-quality wood with the required characteristics depending on their activities and their products.
